Dear Paul,
At 2pm today I met with Conwy County Borough Council officials and fellow
councillors to discuss the initial recommendation to dispose of the land
currently occupied by the Bay of Colwyn Sailing club for favour of housing
development.
Without going into too much detail here I am delighted to be able to tell
you that at the conclusion of the meeting, it has been decided to grant the
Sailing Club the 21 year lease for the existing site as you requested. This
lease will be entered into formally between the Council and the club thereby
securing your tenancy for that 21 year period which will now allow you to go
ahead and develop and improve the site as you originally intended.
As discussed there may be a need for the Council to use a small narrow slip
of the land on the Abbey Road gate side of the site if certain other
developments occur during that period. But again, as I explained if this
work is ever required, I insisted that it will be carried out at the
Councils expense not the Sailing Club, including any work required to modify
your existing fence.
I have also asked for the permission you need to remove the current garage
to be expedited as soon as possible so that you may commence your upgrading
programme for the site which I am sure you are anxious to get on with over
the summer.
There is no doubt in my mind that our campaign, supported as it was by so
many people, helped to influence this decision and I am sure that you share
my appreciation to all who supported us in our aims, literally in their
thousands..
This is a good result for the whole area and I am very pleased at the
outcome as I'm sure you will be.
Regards
Councillor Phil Edwards
