BAY OF COLWYN SAILING CLUB

Our boat park is situated at Rhos Point about 200 yards west of the harbour, where the cruisers are laid up for winter.
We have strong links with Rydal-Penrhos College who are well known for their keen sailing activities and who host the Pico
championships. We provide race management during the championships.
About Colwyn Bay.
Colwyn Bay is one of the best sailing venues on the North Wales coast. Being only 90 minutes from Manchester and 2 hrs. from
Birmingham. Rhos on Sea has a good wide slipway which is for the sole use of sailing boats. Launching is free and is sheltered from
all but an easterly wind. There are regulations imposed by the Conwy Harbour authority regarding insurance and safety equipment
Power boats also have a dedicated slipway adjacent to the pier there is a charge for launching levied by the Conwy harbour
Authority.
PWC’s also have a dedicated slipway opposite Eirias Park. They have a very active club with a training centre on the promenade.
The entire Bay has excellent sailing with a maximum 1.5 knot tides. Shelter from the prevailing south-westerly winds provides
generally good sea conditions and the views of the two Ormes and the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park are spectacular.

We are one of a few local clubs with a keen interest in water sports who meet at the SEASPORTS club house situated on the
Promenade and having the finest view of Rhos harbour. Here we socialise on a Friday evening, plan our cruises and hold our
Monthly committee meetings. The club house is open all year round with the usual licensing hours. Visitors are most welcome.
We are now largely an RYA affiliated cruising club where a number of members have moorings allocated by Conwy harbour
authority. The harbour is 100 yards from the Aberhod slipway where shelter is afforded by the Rhos-on-Sea breakwater. The
moorings are half tide moorings giving almost 6 hours of sailing time on one tide. Other members have moorings in the Conwy
River.
