Circumnavigation of Anglesey. April 2010.
Two boats set off on time EIRA and SPLASH II hoping for good weather. All started out well and made good time to Beaumaris in the sun. After breakfast and a small sleep we awoke to rain, it was as if it were another day. We motored on to Caernarfon were we stopped over at Victoria Dock.
Unfortunately the weather was not so kind here and the bar was out of the question. We headed for Moelfre and settled for the night. The wind kept the boats comfortable for the night. The next day heading back to Rhos only to find the seagulls had partied in their dinghies. A good shake down cruise and we will have to circumnavigate Anglesey another day.

Commodore’s cruise May 2010
Three boats set off at midnight to anchor out within the bay EIRA,SPLASH II and ALPHA III. Carl made it to his boat but never made it out of the harbour. The three boats anchored out had the most peaceful nights sleep you could ask for with a mirror sea. The next morning setting off for Red Wharf Bay in blue skies and flat seas with no wind. Soon giving up the efforts for sail and motoring to the destination. Once in Red Wharf a BBQ was soon under way with Sheena taking command as usual.
The rain never came but Donna, Alex, James, Peggy (Mike’s lot), George, Samuel, Keith (Phil’s lot) and Mark, Glenda (Splash) who had driven did.
A BBQ was had by all and we even got back to the boats without getting wet!
That night however seen some squally weather with Mike out in the night rechecking his mooring and George doing the same. The next morning was much the same but with sunlight. EIRA and SPLASH II set off for Conwy in the blow but George on ALPHA III thought they were mad and said he was going to soak up the sun but we all know it wasn’t the sun he was going to soak up.
EIRA and SPLASH II had a fantastic sail to Conwy with F6 being the norm and beating speeds around 6 knots (George missed a good sail here). They berthed in Conwy on the inside pontoon for the night and had a very pleasant evening. Setting off in the morning, motoring out the channel and Phil short cutting over the bank. Picking up the wind at the Great Orme and sailing into Colwyn Bay where the May day event was taking place with other boats out on the water. EIRA and SPLASH II had a bit of good sailing here just too show off until going into Rhos.
ALPHA III returned late that night and stayed over till the next morning.

Liverpool 2010
We set off at midnight on Friday and anchored out in the Bay for correct time to sail off in the Morning. Splash with Mark, Splash ll with Mike and Alex, Alpha lll with George and John M and Gi Gi with John C and Viv. The night was without wind and a very flat sea, a perfect sleep was had by all.
At first light the boats set off for Liverpool in a F1-2 which increased in strength bit by bit. Reef after reef was set in until the boats were fully reefed that was all but for Splash as Mark thought it was fine to sail with full sail in a F7 gusting 8’s with the spreaders scraping in the water. Eira and Splash ll having a whale of a time making over 6.5 knots and plenty of white water.
As the boats rounded the Queens channel they found a steady 38 knot headwind with a wind over tide situation and deep troughs with bows regularly scooping water and props blowing fresh air. All made it into the Marina Dock without much ado. When in and berthed a top time was had in the marina bar and the weather not calming meant that an extra day was called for.
We set off on Monday lunch time and motored out to the Rock channel. All boats through on time and sails set. Light airs on a close reach turned to a run, Splash, Splash ll and Eira flying spinnakers to make the best of the airs. At Point of Ayr the wind went for an hour until it came back on a close reach with 16 knots and a perfect sail back. Alpha lll with George and John M cruised back with the time set to sail straight onto their mooring. Splash was enjoying the sail so much he carried on alone to the Menai Straights.
A very fine and good sailing weekend with a fair mix of winds.
