COMMODORES CRUISE   14TH 15TH JUNE 2008
Destination Moelfre, Anglesey

This years Commodores Cruise was a great success, with 8 boats taking part (6 cruisers and 2 power boats). Boats departed Rhos Harbour around 1000 hrs with the slower boats going off first. Weather conditions were sunny with a brisk northerly force 5 breeze. A number of us headed out towards the West Constable buoy initially under engine, whilst others made straight for Puffin to drop anchor for lunch. As the wind was on the nose we sailed close-hauled tacking all the way. The powerboats “Swampy” and “Sea Yer” arrive at Moelfre first followed by “Alpha 111” (didn’t stop for lunch) at 1530hrs. The rest arrived over the next few hours some under the assistance of engine for the last mile (after all it was getting a bit late for the planned BBQ on the beach). Purist “Carriad y Mor” arrived last but had sailed all the way, well done Carl.
We had the beach to ourselves and enjoyed the BBQ and a few beers, “Esta” skipper John and friend came along by car promising to use the boat next time! We all ended up in the Dulas Arms for one last pint before returning to our boats.
After a hearty breakfast, or in George’s case cold sausages from last nights BBQ we left in our own time for our return journey, as the wind was now behind us it was a leisurely run home with most of us stopping for lunch at Puffin. We had plenty of time to get back as we could not get into Rhos Breakwater until 1915 hrs, with most of us dropping anchor in the bay until it was time to get in.
Our 2 powerboats “Swampy” and “See Yer” captained by Nige and Colin respectively had a different tale to tell as they left Moelfre on the Saturday night just after the BBQ and I believe spent an uncomfortable night in Llandudno Bay. Further details will no doubt will emerge in the fullness of time.
